Break The Comfort Zone – Worksheet

If you stay where things are familiar and never take any risks you will never reach your full potential. With that being said as human beings we have a lot of anxiety when it comes to the unknown and this prevents us from doing the very things we need to do to make our lives better. Here are some strategies I use to develop a habit of stepping outside of my comfort zone.

  1. Take imperfect action –

We must banish perfectionism and realize that it is not an asset but a chain that keeps us stuck. It took me a long time to learn to take imperfect action because perfectionism used to trick me into thinking that I was making myself better by waiting but I was actually holding myself back and letting opportunities pass me by. If you are going to get out of your comfort zone for success you must STOP doing this. Start taking imperfect action by preparing yourself to the best of your ability but do not expect to be perfect before you take the step otherwise you will never take the step.

  1. Release the false idea of fear

Every time before I go out on stage I experience this flutter in my belly. Back in the day it would cause me to doubt myself and want to run away. One day it was so bad that I got on stage and I totally blanked out. I embarrassed myself in front of a crowd and after that day I told myself that I would never let that feeling cripple me again. What causes us to feel this thing anxiety that we falsely call fear? It’s something called cognitive dissonance which is the inconsistent thoughts, attitudes and behaviors of where we are versus where we want to be. When these two contradictory beliefs co-exist in our psyche it causes disharmony and discomfort, which results in stress. Now-a-days before I go on stage I feel the butterflies but instead of interpreting it as fear and allowing it to frighten and cripple me I interpret it as excitement, or the necessary anxiety which is needed to propel me out of my comfort zone. This re-framing of the feeling immediately brings my whole body into balance because my thoughts, attitudes and behavior are now in alignment with where I want to be.

  1. Remember your WHY

Your why is your reason for striving, achieving and growing and it is far more important than allowing yourself to stay stuck. What is your big why? Write it down or just free write in a journal until it comes to you.

  1. Never to back down from a challenge because

Have you achieved anything in life easily and then later took it for granted? That is what happens when things come too easily but when we are challenged we remember what it took to achieve the goal and we cherish our achievements. As we accept the challenges that are in alignment with our bigger why we find that we grow in ways that we never thought possible.

  1. Let Go

It is the wanting to control everything that keeps us stuck but if we really look at life we realize that there is hardly anything that we truly control yet as human beings we love to think that we are in control. Have you ever noticed that when you let go things flow more naturally because you give yourself permission to let things evolve, as they should? I have found that when I take off my own limitations, my expectations are far exceeded because at the end of the day I might think I have the vision but there are higher powers in control that have even greater visions for me.

  1. Be the change you wish to see in the world

As we step out of our comfort zone and do the amazing things that are on or hearts we become a light onto the path for others to do the same. Greatness resides outside of our comfort zone where most people are afraid to go and by living life with this adventurous spirit you inspire others without even knowing it. But most of all you are able to inspire yourself as you take on new challenges and succeed, you become more confident and you gain experiences and knowledge that you would never have received if you had stayed in your predictable space of comfort.

  1. Be supportive and get support

Seek to be around people who are striving to become the best version of themselves. Get a coach, form a mastermind, find an accountability partner who you can support and who supports you. Find groups, mentors and people who will provide inspirational content and useful shows like Levantay TV to help you stay on your path to personal greatness.

  1. Be visionary

When I feel a little scared to truly stretch outside my limits I remember that all great leaders are visionaries so I let my imagination fill the gaps by keeping my goals and desired outcomes in the forefront of my mind. I’ve always had a very active imagination, even in childhood I had imaginary friends so I find it useful to daydream about what I want to achieve and keep that as my motivation to manifest it.

  1. Settle into the flow – and remember that the universe is always on my side.

As you accept the challenges that are meant to expand you and bring you into your full potential there is a grace that occurs. This grace opens unlocked doors and sends the right people across your path to aid your growth. This flow is only accessible outside of the comfort zone and is only granted when we show that we are willing to stretch and step out in faith to pursue the path of our destiny.

  1. Finally Just keep on doing it – The only way to get better at something is to keep on doing it. Remain open to the opportunities to grow and do not hesitate to step into uncharted territories for your success.

As you develop the habit of courage to always evolve outside of your comfort zone and reach higher you will find that you illuminate the way for yourself and others. As Marrianne Williamson so brilliantly states in her book “A Return To Love,” Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
