How to Live Your Truth & beYOUtiful

[soundcloud id=’200979485′ autoPlay=’false’]

I recorded this song years ago as a message to my niece who was being told by the mean kids at school that she wasn’t beautiful. It broke my heart to see her this way so I decided to write a song that would empower her. Years later this song took on new meaning when I found myself starting over after walking away from eight years of work with my first Producer. I listened to it on repeat as I struggled to get back on my feet. The lyrics reminded me that being beautiful meant living my truth. It meant stepping out of the boxes others created and bravely charting my own path.

I had forgotten my truth as I floated along on others expectations while denying my passions. I was comfortable living a lie, but not anymore. At the center of our beauty is our truth, which is why I decided to remake beautiful and rename it beYOUtiful. When you are brave enough to be honest with yourself and live your truth then you become truly beYOUtiful. I’m so excited to announce that beYOUtiful will be the first single from the Brave Girl EP. It takes a lot of courage to live your truth but why would you want to lie about something so important?

Here are five steps you can take to live your truth & beYOUtiful:

Being #beYOUtiful means living your truth, here's how with a soundtrack to keep you jamming Click To Tweet
  1. Truly see yourself

When I wake up in the morning one of the first things I do is brush my face and wash my teeth (smile) I mean wash my face and brush my teeth. We do this without thinking right? It’s muscle memory. One particular morning I forgot to close the cabinet door and when I raised my head I banged right into the sharp edge of the door. As I held my head and reeled in pain I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. I realized that I hadn’t really seen myself in a long time. I went closer to the mirror to stare into my own eyes and I couldn’t find myself there. I had passion and fire for life deep down but the girl looking back at me had none. Her eyes were dead as she carried on the same boring routine everyday, giving up on her dreams. I couldn’t believe that I had become that girl. Take the time to truly see yourself. Look into your own eyes and investigate yourself to see if you are living your truth. If you can’t find yourself there it’s time to make a change.

  1. Bask in what makes you different

“We couldn’t all be roses/every flower has a purpose.”

This was the first line that came to me when I wrote beYOUtiful. How boring it would be if we looked out into nature and all we saw were roses? Variety is the spice of life and that is why no two human beings are the same. In order to find your truth you have to look to what makes you different. You have to believe that you play a part that no one else can play and if you live your life from your unique passions, desires and dreams then you will fulfill your role in the greater puzzle.

  1. Listen to the whisper of your heart

We try so hard to get close to other people or even to prove ourselves to them and in doing so we forget to get close to our self. As we get closer to the whisper of our hearts we get closer to the Super Natural Force that created and sustains us. It is from this place that we begin to manifest our calling. It is important to listen to the whisper of your heart but the only way to hear it is to listen in stillness. Make time to meditate and go within.

  1. Believe in your truth

Once you know who you are then believe in that fiercely, because anything that challenges that truth is a lie. Those who know themselves are able to spot falsity quickly. They stay on their path because they know what serves them and they are quick to dismiss what doesn’t.

  1. Shine Bright!

Never let the light fade from your eyes. When you live your truth you bask in your light and you help others to shine.

Do not be afraid to let your light shine For you never know whose world you will be illuminating. Click To Tweet
